Learn about me
My name is Helen and I am currently studying for an MA in English Literature at the University of Sheffield. I originally hail from a small, quite rural village near Nottingham in the East Midlands of the sort where the inhabitants are made up of “Keeping Up With The Jones’” types and old people, but even though I love the country life, I find myself much more at home in a city where all the shops I need are a short walk away. And of course, I get much less fat when I walk everywhere rather than drive.
I love to write, and I write at every possible opportunity. I am even trying to stop considering myself as a student who aspires to be a writer and start to think of myself as a writer who just happens to still be in study. I aspire to write for magazines like the London Review of Books, the Paris Review and my dream would be to eventually have my own regular feature space in one of the major broadsheets. On the other hand, I am utterly terrified of anyone reading what I write in case they don’t like it, so my dreams of writing for such prestigious magazines are probably a long way off yet.
