Project Education 365: Learn One New Thing Every Day
On New Year’s Eve evening, I made a decision that rather than let my brain continue to disintegrate into post-Masters mush, in 2012 I am going to make a conscious effort to learn and retain one new thing every day, whether it be the definition of a word, a random useless fact, or something else useful or otherwise. Had I been organised, I would have posted my intentions on New Year’s Eve when the decision was made, but I’m not, so here’s what I have learned so far in 2012:
January 1st
Learned while watching The Great Barrier Reef on BBC1:
Parrot fish cocoon themselves in a mucus membrane while they sleep to disguise their scent and therefore protect themselves from predators while they’re off their guard.
January 2nd
Learned from Snog Healthy Treats Cookbook:
Agave nectar is one of the lowest GI sweeteners available, ranking at about 25-50, vs 90something for the same quantity of sugar.
January 3rd
Learned from Vickie at work:
Despite the size of the country and the “popularity” of the garment, there are only two beret factories in France.
My intention is to post my learnings every few days as and when I remember so that at the end of the year, I have a complete catalogue of all the things I’ve learned and remembered.
Happy New Year everyone!
